SELEN GÜLÜN | セレン・ギュリュン

作曲家、ピアニスト、歌手、編曲者。様々な現代音楽のスタイルでの作曲やパフォーマンスが特徴。彼女が作曲した音楽は、母国トルコのみならず、オーストリア、ドイツ、オランダ、英国、スウェーデン、デンマーク、イタリア、フランス、米国、ブラジル、日本、カンボジア、パキスタン、リトアニア、ロシア、モザンビーク等、世界各国で演奏されている。これまでにCDアルバム、「Just About Jazz Live (recjazz, 2005)、「Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler (recjazz, 2006)、「Selen Gülün by Selen Gülün (re:konstruKt, 2009)、「Answers (pozitif, 2010)、「Başka (linrecords, 2013), Kadinlar Matinesi(A.K. Müzik, 2017)を発表。「Answers」は、ディスクユニオンのJazz Tokyo Weekly Chartにて第6位を獲得、「Başka」は第4位を記録。また、AK Musicより2017年4月発売のライブ盤「Kadinlar Matinesi」はトルコの女性作曲家たちをフューチャーしたコンサートシリーズである。作曲作品はthe Dartford Symphony Orchestra the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria),sa.ne.na Percussion EnsembleIstanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey)などに取り上げられている。Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), the British Council Visiting ArtsCreative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), Fondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011(Italy) など、数多くの賞を受賞。イスタンブール大学国立コンサーバトリーで音楽を学んだ後、イスタンブール大学経営学科を卒業。その後、イスタンブールのミマール・シナン大学国立コンサーバトリーにて、さらに音楽教育を受ける。1996年には、奨学金を得てバークレー音楽大学に進学。1998年には同校のジャズ作曲学科を首席で卒業。イスタンブールに帰国後、2003年にはIstanbulTechnical UniversityCenter of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM)にて音楽の修士号を取得。

As a leading contemporary musician in Turkey, Selen Gülün combines her Western music education and her Turkish soul in her work as composer, pianist, vocalist, and arranger. She attained critical acclaim internationally with her music being performed in 20 countries around the world including the USA, Brazil, Japan, Cambodia, Pakistan, Russia, Mozambique, Australia, and all around Europe. Gülün has released six albums: Just About Jazz Live (recjazz, 2005), Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler (recjazz, 2006), Selen Gülün by Selen Gülün (re:konstruKt, 2009),  Answers (pozitif, 2010), Başka (linrecords,2013), Kadinlar Matinesi (A.K. Müzik, 2017). Answers reached #6 and Başka reached #4 in the Jazz Tokyo Weekly Chart. Gülün / Allulli / De Raymondi’s electroacoustic album KAPI is a multicultural project with her long-term Italian collaborators Marcello Allulli and Emanuele de Raymondi. Kadinlar Matinesi (The Women’s Matinee), released in April 2017, was born out of her concert series featuring the works of women composers in Turkey. Her compositions have been premiered by the Dartford Symphony Orchestra and the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria), sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble, and Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey). She has received many awards including the Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), the British Council Visiting Arts, Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), and Fondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011 (Italy). She is working on a book commissioned by Fondazione Adkins Chiti in Rome, entitled “Woman Composers of Turkey” that will be published in 2017. She studied music at the Istanbul University and the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatories and graduated from Istanbul University’s Business Administration Department. In 1998, she received her B.A. in Jazz Composition summa cum laude from the Berklee College of Music. She received her Master’s in Music at Istanbul Technical University’s Center of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). She taught Piano Performance, Music Theory, and Composition at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department from 1998 to 2015. She has given lectures on new music and contemporary music at the Berklee College of Music (Boston), The New School (New York), the Malmö Academy of Music, the Utrecht School of the Arts, TEDx Bogazici University among others.

庄田次郎(しょうだじろう)

1949年4月16日 静岡県 下田市生まれ。法政大学卒。(ジャズ研究会) 在学時より原寮と、 新宿ニュージャズホールなどで活躍。その後自己のグループや、阿部薫・ 豊住芳三郎・高木元輝らと共演。74年、ニュージャズ・シンジケート を原寮とともに結成、85年頃よりリーダーとして活躍。常に日本の ジャズシーンの先端を担い現在にいたっている。77年、下田にジャズ喫茶チェシャーキャットCheshire Cat)を開店、以後も頻繁に上京。 また地方、海外へも遠征。79-80年、富樫雅彦オーケストラ、85-86年ソロによる全国行脚、86-87年、全米吹き歩きツアー、 ワシントンでクリフォードジョーダンらと共演、ニューヨークでは8ヶ月、 ストリートやライブハウスで吹きまくる。90年には“Cosmic Zoo”を結成、 さまざまなジャンルとの共演、また全国パフォーマンスツアー、92年 9月-12月には、ニューヨーク・メキシコツアーを敢行。93年頃より 多数楽器同時演奏を開始、パフォーマンス色を強めながらも、真の音、 ソウルへの探求はその肉体とともに衰えることを知らない。 その後も精力的に日本だけにとどまらず、98年以降毎年、パリやニューヨークなどの海外でも活躍している。現在、東京・竹ノ塚、ダンデライオンで毎月ソロライブ&セッション を行っている。なお、自店チェシャーキャット、ニュージャズシンジケートも 健在である。

JIRO SHODA

Born in 1949 in Shimoda, Shizuoka prefecture. He graduated from Hosei University (Jazz Institute). During his college days, he was active in the dormitory and Shinjuku New Jazz Hall. After that, he collaborated with his group and Kaoru Abe, Yosaburo Toyosumi and Motoaki Takagi. In 1974 he formed the New Jazz Syndicate and he has been the leader since 1985. He has always been at the forefront of the Japanese free jazz scene. In 1977, he opened his own jazz club in Shimoda called Cheshire Cat (チェシャーキャット), which he still runs in 2018.

He has toured Japan and overseas many times. 1979-80 Togashi Masahiko Orchestra, 1985-86 Solo Japan Tour. In 1986-87 he toured with Clifford Jordan and others in Washington and New York for 8 months playing at live houses and on the streets. In 1990, he formed “Cosmic Zoo”, performing various genres, toured around Japan as well as in New York and Mexico in Sep.-Dec. 1992. He started playing multiple instruments in his concerts from around 1993, increasing the performance color and the real sound. Since 1998, he has continued to tour around Japan but also overseas such as Paris and New York. Currently, he has monthly solo concerts and session every in Tokyo. Cheshire Cat in Shimoda and New Jazz Syndicate are still alive and kicking!
