Selen Gülün is back at the legendary Lady Jane in Shimokitazawa, open since 1975. This time for a Duo concert with Anil Eraslan (cello) visiting from Berlin/ Strasbourg!
Selen’s previous performances at Lady Jane were with Keiji Haino, Keisuke Ohta, Marcello Allulli, David Negrete, Christopher Hardy, and Raymond McMorrin.

SELEN GÜLÜN セレン・ギュリュン
作曲家、ピアニスト、歌手、編曲者。様々な現代音楽のスタイルでの作曲やパフォーマンスが特徴。彼女が作曲した音楽は、母国トルコのみならず、オーストリア、ドイツ、オランダ、英国、スウェーデン、デンマーク、イタリア、フランス、米国、ブラジル、日本、カンボジア、パキスタン、リトアニア、ロシア、モザンビーク等、世界各国で演奏されている。これまでにCDアルバム、「Just About Jazz Live 」(recjazz, 2005年)、「Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler」 (recjazz, 2006年)、「Selen Gülün – SOLO」 (2009年)、「Answers」 (pozitif, 2010年)、「Başka」 (linrecords, 2013年), 「Kadinlar Matinesi」(A.K. Müzik, 2017年)を発表。「Answers」は、ディスクユニオンのJazz Tokyo Weekly Chartにて第6位を獲得、「Başka」は第4位を記録。また、AK Musicより2017年4月発売のライブ盤「Kadinlar Matinesi」はトルコの女性作曲家たちをフューチャーしたコンサートシリーズである。2019年5月発売のアルバム「MANY FACES」は、Selen Gülünの新作デュオアルバムで、ハクエイ・キム(p)、太田惠資(vln)、五十嵐一生 (tpt)、Marcello Allulli(ts)が日本とイタリアでライブでレコーディングしたものです。 作曲作品はthe Dartford Symphony Orchestra 、the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria),、sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble、Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey)などに取り上げられている。Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), やthe British Council Visiting Arts、Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), やFondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011(Italy) など、数多くの賞を受賞。イスタンブール大学国立コンサーバトリーで音楽を学んだ後、イスタンブール大学経営学科を卒業。その後、イスタンブールのミマール・シナン大学国立コンサーバトリーにて、さらに音楽教育を受ける。1996年には、奨学金を得てバークレー音楽大学に進学。1998年には同校のジャズ作曲学科を首席で卒業。イスタンブールに帰国後、2003年にはIstanbulTechnical UniversityのCenter of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM)にて音楽の修士号を取得。 彼女はまた、教育者として今もオズイェイン大学およびビルギ大学で教壇に立っており、1998~2015年には、ビルギ大学音楽科にてピアノ、音楽理論、および作曲の教鞭をとっていた。Berklee College of MusicとThe New School (米国), Malmö Academy of Music(スウェーデン), Utrecht School of the Arts(オランダ), TEDx Bogazici University(トルコ)において、ニュー・ミュージックとコンテンポラリー・ミュージックに関する講演を、行うなど、ミュージシャンと同時に教育者としての活動も続けている。

ANIL ERASLAN アニル・エラスラン
チェリスト、コンポ―ザー、写真家。クラシック、現代音楽、ジャズ、即興音楽を主に演奏。トルコ南西部の都市、ブルドゥルに1981年生まれる。その後フランスに移り、strasbourg conserystory(ストラスブール国立音楽院)で学んだ後著名なアーティストとのコラボレーションを重ねる。数々の賞を受賞。現在は世界中からのオファーを受け、パリ、ストラスブール、ベルリン、イスタンブールを拠点に多忙な音楽活動をしている。 Hosek Contemporary(ベルリン)でのさがゆきとの共演の反響がきっかけとなり、今回、初来日の運びとなる。

Composer, pianist, vocalist, educator Selen Gülün is one of the most influential and accomplished contemporary musicians to emerge from Istanbul, Turkey. She attained critical acclaim internationally with her music being performed in 20 countries around the world including the USA, Brazil, Japan, Cambodia, Pakistan, Russia, Mozambique, Australia, and all around Europe. Gülün has released six albums: Just About Jazz Live (recjazz, 2005), Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler (recjazz, 2006), Selen Gülün – SOLO (2009), Answers (pozitif, 2010), Başka (linrecords,2013), Kadinlar Matinesi (A.K. Müzik, 2017). Answers reached #6 and Başka reached #4 in the Jazz Tokyo Weekly Chart. Gülün / Allulli / De Raymondi’s electroacoustic album KAPI is a multicultural project with her long-term Italian collaborators Marcello Allulli and Emanuele de Raymondi. Kadinlar Matinesi (The Women’s Matinee) was born out of her concert series featuring the works of women composers in Turkey. MANY FACES is Gülün’s new duo album recorded live in Japan and Italy featuring Hakuei Kim (p), Keisuke Ohta (vln), Issei Igarashi (tpt), and Marcello Allulli (ts). The album will be released in 2019. Her compositions have been premiered by the Dartford Symphony Orchestra and the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria), sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble, and Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey). She has received many awards including the Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), the British Council Visiting Arts, Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), and Fondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011 (Italy). She is working on a book commissioned by Fondazione Adkins Chiti in Rome, entitled “Woman Composers of Turkey” that will be published in 2019. She studied music at the Istanbul University and the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatories and graduated from Istanbul University’s Business Administration Department. In 1998, she received her B.A. in Jazz Composition summa cum laude from the Berklee College of Music. She received her Master’s in Music at Istanbul Technical University’s Center of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). She taught Piano Performance, Music Theory, and Composition at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department from 1998 to 2015. She has given lectures on new music and contemporary music at the Berklee College of Music (Boston), The New School (New York), the Malmö Academy of Music, the Utrecht School of the Arts, TEDx Bogazici University among others. Gülün moved to Tokyo in 2017 where she has been performing and teaching since.

ANIL ERASLAN アニル・エラスラン
Born in Turkey in 1981, was formed in Ankara before settling in France and studying classical, new music, jazz and improvisation in Conservatoire de Strasbourg. After the studies, he founded his quartet ‘Auditive Connection’. They got the AJC JazzMigration Selection and they performed in many festivals in France, Germany, Ireland, Turkey, Italy and Portugal. Between 2012-2015, he was the artist in residency in Illiade Concert Hall where he created the trio ‘Balboura’, playing the music from South-West of Turkey and also trio Skaner with Sylvain Kassap and Eric Groleau, playing his arrangements and compositions as a tribute project to the Woodstock’s free jazz scene ‘Creative Music Studio’.
In 2009, he started collaborating with many bands in Istanbul.
He met the singer Sumru Ağıryürüyen and they started their duo ‘Sert Sessizler’. The album is released by Baykus Music in 2012.
He collaborates with his musicians friends from Istanbul such as Tolga Tüzün, Ayse Tütüncü, Cenk Erdoğan, Oğuz Büyükberber, Korhan Erel, Şevket Akıncı and Alper Maral.
In 2010, he started to play a duo with John Lindberg. Their LP record ‘Juggling Kukla’ is released by the Lithuanian label ‘NoBusiness’ in 2015.
In 2012, he was artist in residency in Berlin for the CEAAC program to develop his project on improvisation & pinhole photography. In 2014,
he was artist in residency in OMI Art Center in New York.
In 2013, he co-founded the P.I.L.S. Collective to organize and curate improvised music concerts in Strasbourg.
He has a string trio; ‘Kemik’ with Ruben Tenenbaum and Vincent Posty had several concerts in Europe and Turkey.
They played their own music, improvisations and they composed for the legendary movie from 1922 ‘Häxan’.
He recorded his first solo album ‘Absorb’ and it is released by A.K. Müzik in 2015 in Istanbul.
He played his solo in the festivals such as; Jazz d’Or, Météo, Superflux, Jazz à l’Etage, Baignade Interdite, Sunnyside, Contemp-Micro and MIRR Jazz Days.
Since 2016, he’s living between Berlin and Strasbourg, multiplying the projects and experiences between Strasbourg, Paris, Istanbul, Berlin and Tokyo.
He collaborates with the figures of the experimental music scene such as Axel Dörner, Tobias Delius, Tristan Honsinger, Michael Moore, Liz Kozack, Antonio Borghini, Marcello Busato, Antonis Anissegos, Ketan Bhatti, Cymin Samawati and Philippe Lemoine. He is currently playing with bands such as Trickster Orchestra in Berlin, duo with Eric Groleau in Paris, duo with Yuki Saga in Tokyo (release of the album at the end of 2018) and Trio ‘H’ dedicated to the French nuclear tests of the 60s in the Algerian Sahara with Grégory Dargent and Wassim Halal in Paris and the Rembetiko music band ‘Sousta Politiki’ in Strasbourg. He’s collaborating in theater and story telling projects with Matthieu Epp and also the composer, baglama player Taner Akyolsince many years.
A new quartet is born in November 2018 with Fred Frith, Clara Weil and Tom Malmendier. They are preparing the album.
Besides, he’s working on photography and video projects.
