MANY FACES Album Release Concerts: Selen Gülün & Issei Igarashi @ Alfie

「MANY FACES」は、Selen Gülünによる新作デュオアルバムです。

共演者に、ハクエイ・キム（p）、五十嵐一生 (tpt)、太田惠資（vln）、Marcello Allulli（ts）を迎えて日本とイタリアでレコーディングされました。

アルバムは8曲で構成され、そのうち4曲はSelenのオリジナル作曲、4曲は即興演奏です。

「MANY FACES」のアイデアは、2016年から2018年までに日本、イタリア、トルコで行われた、ハクエイさん、五十嵐さん、太田さん、そしてMarcelloと行なってきたセッションから生まれました。

MANY FACES is Selen Gülün’s new duo album recorded live in Japan and Italy featuring Hakuei Kim (p), Issei Igarashi (tpt), Keisuke Ohta (vln), and Marcello Allulli (ts). It is comprised of 8 tracks, of which 4 are Selen’s original compositions and 4 are free improvisations performed by Selen in duo formation with the 4 other artists. MANY FACES was born from Selen’s performances with Hakuei, Issei, Keisuke, and Marcello that took place from 2016 through 2018 in Japan, Italy, and Turkey.

作曲家、ピアニスト、歌手、編曲者。様々な現代音楽のスタイルでの作曲やパフォーマンスが特徴。彼女が作曲した音楽は、母国トルコのみならず、オーストリア、ドイツ、オランダ、英国、スウェーデン、デンマーク、イタリア、フランス、米国、ブラジル、日本、カンボジア、パキスタン、リトアニア、ロシア、モザンビーク等、世界各国で演奏されている。これまでにCDアルバム、「Just About Jazz Live 」(recjazz, 2005年)、「Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler」 (recjazz, 2006年)、「Selen Gülün by Selen Gülün」 (re:konstruKt, 2009年)、「Answers」 (pozitif, 2010年)、「Başka」 (linrecords, 2013年), 「Kadinlar Matinesi」(A.K. Müzik, 2017年), 「Many Faces」(iKi Muzik, 2019年)を発表。「Many Faces」は、Selen Gülünによる新作デュオアルバムです。共演者に、ハクエイ・キム（p）、五十嵐一生 (tpt)、太田惠資（vln）、Marcello Allulli（ts）を迎えて日本とイタリアでレコーディングされました。「Answers」は、ディスクユニオンのJazz Tokyo Weekly Chartにて第6位を獲得、「Başka」は第4位を記録。また、2017年発売の「Kadinlar Matinesi」はトルコの女性作曲家たちをフューチャーしたコンサートシリーズである。作曲作品はthe Dartford Symphony Orchestra 、the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria),、sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble、Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey)などに取り上げられている。Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), やthe British Council Visiting Arts、Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), やFondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011(Italy) など、数多くの賞を受賞。イスタンブール大学国立コンサーバトリーで音楽を学んだ後、イスタンブール大学経営学科を卒業。その後、イスタンブールのミマール・シナン大学国立コンサーバトリーにて、さらに音楽教育を受ける。1996年には、奨学金を得てバークレー音楽大学に進学。1998年には同校のジャズ作曲学科を首席で卒業。イスタンブールに帰国後、2003年にはIstanbul Technical UniversityのCenter of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM)にて音楽の修士号を取得。

五十嵐一生  |  ISSEI IGARASHI

1965年1月北海道生まれ。4歳でピアノを始め、10歳頃からジャズとトランペット、オーディオに目覚めると同時にマイルス・デイビスのレコード『Miles in Tokyo』と出会う。

13歳の時に石川県に移住、ブラスバンドや作曲活動を始める。高校在学中はYAMAHAライトミュージックコンテストで「ベストホーンプレイヤー賞」、NHKヤングミュージックフェスティバルで「特別賞」を受賞。

1985年に国立音楽大学入学。在学中は元NHK交響楽団首席トランペット奏者の北村源三氏に師事し、同時にニュータイドジャズオーケストラ、モンキー小林J.J.M.等に参加。1988年の山野ビックバンドコンテストでは「優秀ソリスト賞」を獲得。

中村誠一グループで新宿ピットインにデビュー、その後すぐに日野元彦に認められ“日野元彦196×”、“日野元彦グループ”に参加。都内各所のライブハウスに出演し始め、多くのミュージシャンと共演してレコーディングにも多数参加する。

1993年『Deep Blue Rain』でソロ・アルバム・デビューを果たす。以降は毎年コンスタントに『camel』 (1994)、『GOLDEN LIPS』 (1995：スイングジャーナル誌選定ゴールドディスク受賞)、 『TOKYO MOON』 (1996)、立川直樹プロデュース作『SUMMER´S ALMOST GONE』(1997)を発表し続ける。

2001年には映画『真夜中まで』(監督：和田誠)で主演の真田広之に演奏指導、サウンドトラック盤でも演奏を担当した。活動はジャズの範囲にとどまらず、岩代太郎や風防義和とのジョイント、クラブ系や即興パフォーマンス、作曲、ＴＶドラマ、「BMW」を始めとしたCM音楽他幅広く活躍している。クリエイティヴ・シーン全般に熱狂的ファン多数。

共演したアーティストは中村誠一、渡辺香津美、辛島文雄、本田竹広、峰厚介、向井滋治、益田幹夫、板橋文夫、土岐英史、古沢良次郎、高瀬アキ、坂田明、渡辺貞夫、山下洋輔、日野皓正、山口真文、ジョージ大塚、セイゲンオノ、トミー・フラナガン、デューク・ジョーダン、レイ・ブライアン、ケニー・バロン、ポール・ジャクソン他多数。

初期の東京ザヴィヌルバッハに在籍、近年はケイコ・リーとのセッション&ツアーにも参加している。

2006年には9年間の沈黙を破り6作目のアルバム『Free Drops』を発表。

また、同年12月にNHKでオンエアーされた、横山秀夫・原作の大ヒット作『クライマーズ・ハイ』では、ドラマ音楽のメインソリストとしてフィーチャーされた(音楽担当：大友良英)。

2016年、ピアニスト故・辛島文雄氏とのDUO作「I wish I knew」発表。

2017年、２枚組バラード集を発売予定。

As a leading contemporary musician in Turkey, Selen Gülün attained critical acclaim internationally with her music being performed in 20 countries around the world including the USA, Brazil, Japan, Cambodia, Pakistan, Russia, Mozambique, Australia, and all around Europe. Gülün has released seven albums: Just About Jazz Live (recjazz, 2005), Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler (recjazz, 2006), Selen Gülün by Selen Gülün (re:konstruKt, 2009),  Answers (pozitif, 2010), Başka (linrecords,2013), Kadinlar Matinesi (A.K. Müzik, 2017), Many Faces (iKi Muzik, 2019). Many Faces is Gülün’s new duo album recorded live in Japan and Italy featuring Hakuei Kim (p), Keisuke Ohta (vln), Issei Igarashi (tpt), and Marcello Allulli (ts). Answers reached #6 and Başka reached #4 in the Jazz Tokyo Weekly Chart. Kadinlar Matinesi (The Women’s Matinee) was born out of Gülün’s concert series featuring the works of women composers in Turkey. Gülün / Allulli / De Raymondi’s electroacoustic album KAPI is a multicultural project with her long-term Italian collaborators Marcello Allulli and Emanuele de Raymondi. Gülün’s compositions have been premiered by the Dartford Symphony Orchestra and the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria), sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble, and Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey). She has received many awards including the Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), the British Council Visiting Arts, Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), and Fondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011 (Italy). Gülün’s book entitled “Women and Music in Turkey” was published in April 2019, commissioned by Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica (Rome) and printed in an English/ Turkish edition by Istanbul Bilgi University Press. Gülün studied music at the Istanbul University and the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatories and graduated from Istanbul University’s Business Administration Department. In 1998, she received her B.A. in Jazz Composition summa cum laude from the Berklee College of Music. She received her Master’s in Music at Istanbul Technical University’s Center of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). She taught Piano Performance, Music Theory, and Composition at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department from 1998 to 2015. She has given lectures on new music and contemporary music at the Berklee College of Music (Boston), The New School (New York), the Malmö Academy of Music, the Utrecht School of the Arts, TEDx Bogazici University among others.

ISSEI IGARASHI 五十嵐一生

Born in Hokkaido, Issei Igarashi started playing the trumpet at age 10 and studied at Kunitachi College of Music. He won many awards including Best Horn Player at Yamaha Music Contest, The Special Prize at NHK Music Festival, and Best Soloist Award at Yamano Jazz Contest. He has released 7 jazz albums including “I Wish I Knew: Issei Igarashi meets Fumio Karashima” in 2016. Besides playing at music halls and jazz clubs in Japan, he coaches trumpet and jazz theory to young professionals.
