作曲家、ピアニスト、歌手、編曲者。様々な現代音楽のスタイルでの作曲やパフォーマンスが特徴。彼女が作曲した音楽は、母国トルコのみならず、オーストリア、ドイツ、オランダ、英国、スウェーデン、デンマーク、イタリア、フランス、米国、ブラジル、日本、カンボジア、パキスタン、リトアニア、ロシア、モザンビーク等、世界各国で演奏されている。これまでにCDアルバム、「Just About Jazz Live 」(recjazz, 2005年)、「Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler」 (recjazz, 2006年)、「Selen Gülün by Selen Gülün」 (re:konstruKt, 2009年)、「Answers」 (pozitif, 2010年)、「Başka」 (linrecords, 2013年), 「Kadinlar Matinesi」(A.K. Müzik, 2017年)を発表。「Answers」は、ディスクユニオンのJazz Tokyo Weekly Chartにて第6位を獲得、「Başka」は第4位を記録。また、AK Musicより2017年４月発売のライブ盤「Kadinlar Matinesi」はトルコの女性作曲家たちをフューチャーしたコンサートシリーズである。作曲作品はthe Dartford Symphony Orchestra 、the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria),、sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble、Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey)などに取り上げられている。Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), やthe British Council Visiting Arts、Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), やFondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011(Italy) など、数多くの賞を受賞。イスタンブール大学国立コンサーバトリーで音楽を学んだ後、イスタンブール大学経営学科を卒業。その後、イスタンブールのミマール・シナン大学国立コンサーバトリーにて、さらに音楽教育を受ける。1996年には、奨学金を得てバークレー音楽大学に進学。1998年には同校のジャズ作曲学科を首席で卒業。イスタンブールに帰国後、2003年にはIstanbulTechnical UniversityのCenter of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM)にて音楽の修士号を取得。

SELEN GÜLÜN

As a leading contemporary musician in Turkey, Selen Gülün combines her Western music education and her Turkish soul in her work as composer, pianist, vocalist, and arranger. She attained critical acclaim internationally with her music being performed in 20 countries around the world including the USA, Brazil, Japan, Cambodia, Pakistan, Russia, Mozambique, Australia, and all around Europe. Gülün has released six albums: Just About Jazz Live (recjazz, 2005), Selen Gülün Trio Sürprizler (recjazz, 2006), Selen Gülün by Selen Gülün (re:konstruKt, 2009), Answers (pozitif, 2010), Başka (linrecords,2013), Kadinlar Matinesi (A.K. Müzik, 2017). Answers reached #6 and Başka reached #4 in the Jazz Tokyo Weekly Chart. Gülün / Allulli / De Raymondi’s electroacoustic album KAPI is a multicultural project with her long-term Italian collaborators Marcello Allulli and Emanuele de Raymondi. Kadinlar Matinesi (The Women’s Matinee), released in April 2017, was born out of her concert series featuring the works of women composers in Turkey. Her compositions have been premiered by the Dartford Symphony Orchestra and the Vellinger String Quartet (UK), Ensemble TRIS (Austria), sa.ne.na Percussion Ensemble, and Istanbul Modern Music Ensemble (Turkey). She has received many awards including the Charles Mingus Composition Award 1998 (USA), the British Council Visiting Arts, Creative Collaboration in Music 2003 (UK), and Fondazione Donna Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica’s Artist in Residence Award 2011 (Italy). She is working on a book commissioned by Fondazione Adkins Chiti in Rome, entitled “Woman Composers of Turkey” that will be published in 2018. She studied music at the Istanbul University and the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatories and graduated from Istanbul University’s Business Administration Department. In 1998, she received her B.A. in Jazz Composition summa cum laude from the Berklee College of Music. She received her Master’s in Music at Istanbul Technical University’s Center of Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). She taught Piano Performance, Music Theory, and Composition at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department from 1998 to 2015. She has given lectures on new music and contemporary music at the Berklee College of Music (Boston), The New School (New York), the Malmö Academy of Music, the Utrecht School of the Arts, TEDx Bogazici University among others.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, as performance & jazz composition and arranging major, he moved to Berlin, Germany in 2010. In 2011, he became, and is still, musical director of Canadian singer Rachelle Jeanty (ex. background vocalist of Celine Dion) as well as her bass player. In 2012, one of his Berlin based project “Falk Bonitz Trio” was invited to “Germany-Week” event hosted by German Embassy in Georgia. In 2010, his first solo album called “Landscapes“ (Disk Union Company) was published. In 2016 his upcoming album with European musicians will be published. He is currently an endowed artist of Adamovic Basses (the Netherlands), Vanderkley Amplification (the Netherlands), and DL Cables (Poland). He moved back to Japan in 2016 and is currently based in Tokyo.

DENNIS FREHSE   デニス　フレーゼ (DRUMS)

Dennis Frehse was born in October 1979 in Hannover, Germany. He showed interest and talent for music at an early age but it wasn’t until the age of fifteen that he started studying the drum set. Dennis learned and developed quickly and soon drew interest from local musicians around his hometown. By the age of seventeen, he started working with various jazz bands and also joined some music competitions.

In 1999, Dennis auditioned for the prestigious Berklee College of Music, got accepted and received a scholarship. In January 2001 he moved to Boston, USA to start his studies at Berklee and he graduated in May 2004. After graduation Dennis stayed another year in Boston to gain more experience from the vital and lively music scene around New England. A few highlights from that time are concerts with some of his mentors like Hal Crook & Dave Santoro, being featured on a masterclass DVD by Joe Lovano under the title “Developing a Personal Approach” (Berklee Press) and being member of saxophonist Mike Tucker’s Quartet. In 2004 Dennis was chosen to travel to Japan and France as leader of a student ensemble to represent Berklee College of Music.

In 2005, Dennis moved back to Germany, first living in his hometown Hannover before moving to the city of Duesseldorf in 2006. He started playing various gigs and concerts around Germany and surrounding countries and also became active as an educator in both private lessons and workshops. Musicians he had a chance to work with during this time include Branford Marsalis, Martin Sasse, Julian & Roman Wasserfuhr, Olaf Polziehn, Thomas Rückert, Michel Reis besides many others.

In February 2009 Dennis moved to Japan. He is currently a member of trumpeter Tomonao Hara’s Band, house drummer at Roppongi’s famed “Maduro Bar” and freelancing with various groups.  Since coming to Japan, Dennis has worked with Makoto Ozone, Paquito D’Rivera, Sadao Watanabe, Seiko Matsuda, Dan Nimmer, Kengo Nakamura, Junko Moriya, Tomonao Hara, Kazuhiko Kondo, Yoshiro Okazaki, Shiro Sasaki, Lisa Ono and Jun Abe besides many others, on stage and in the recording studio.

Dennis has released two CDs as a leader in Japan. “trifoje” (2012) and “rollin’ “( 2014), both on 78Label.

Dennis is an endorser for CANOPUS drums, Zildjian cymbals and Regal Tip sticks & brushes.

1979年、ドイツ・ハノーファーに生まれる。7歳よりクラシックギターを始め、13歳で学校内のジャズバンドにてパーカッションを担当し、その後15歳でドラムに転向する。早くも17歳の時には、ジャズバンドのメンバーとして地元を中心に音楽活動を始めると同時に、プロへの道を決意する。高校卒業後、ハノーファーの劇場にて公演されたミュージカル “Anything Goes” のジャズオーケストラメンバーとして出演。97年、99年と、ハノーファー・ジャズコンテスト“Winning Jazz”に出場し、ベストヤングプレイヤー賞、ソロイスト賞を受賞。また99年の“Jugend Jazzt” ファイナルコンテストにて特別賞を受賞する。そして、バークリー音楽大学（アメリカ・ボストン）の奨学金を得て、2001年に入学。在学中、Joe Lovano、Hal Crook、Dave Samuels、Joe Hunt、 Casey Scheuerell や Mark Walker等に師事する。Dave Samuels、Joe Lovanoとは学内のコンサートで共演するなど、多くの経験を積む。また2003年には “Quincy Jones Award” を受賞。さらに Berklee-Press 制作によるDVD “Developing a Personal Approach” にJoe Lovano のマスタークラスメンバーとして出演する。2004年、パフォーマンス科を主席で卒業。その後もボストンを拠点に、Hal Crook、Dave Santoro、Mike Tucker、Bruno Råberg や Darren Barrett 等と演奏活動を重ねる。また、バークリー音楽大学選抜バンドのリーダーとして、日本やフランスツアーにも参加する。ドイツへ帰国後、演奏活動だけでなく音楽の教育者として中高生対象に即興を含む新しい音楽をテーマに講習会を開くなど、数々のワークショップを行う。また、スペイン、ポルトガル、デンマーク、ルクセンブルク、ベルギー、オランダ、チェコ、スイス、そしてドイツを含むヨーロッパ各国で数多くのフェスティバル、コンサートに出演する。そして、2009年に拠点を東京に移し、新たな活動を広げている。2013年にはリーダーアルバム “trifoje” を、78LABELを主宰する小説家・今野敏がその才能に惚れ込みリリースに至る。代表的な共演者として、小曽根真、渡辺貞夫、Branford Marsalis、Paquito D’Rivera、Dan Nimmer、Hal Crook、Tony Lakatos、松田聖子、中村誠一、原朋直、守屋純子、中村健吾、近藤和彦、佐々木史郎、小野リサなどが挙げられる。デニスは CANOPUS ドラム、Zildjian シンバル、Regal Tipスティックのエンドーサーである。
