Selen Gülün Trio @ Foundry 616, Sydney

April 1, 2017 @ 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm

$25

For the first time in Australia, Turkish composer, pianist and singer Selen Gülün brings her unique East/West fusion music to the Foundry616 stage.

With the depth and scope of a broad Western music education infused with a stunning integration of Turkish music elements (her ‘ soul’), Selen’s music is reflective, passionate and richly complex. Critics around the world herald Gülün’s music for it’s drama and elegance. (bio & links below)

“Gülün’s music is by turns distant and immediate — often in the span of a single track.” (Downbeat by Eric Fine)

“In her style, influences from classical and contemporary music rife: pointillism, impressionism, low pitches, clusters, modal, atonal … rich and vibrant, full of different colors and dynamics..”
(all.about.jazz by Gian Paolo Galasi)

“In a raspberry mini dress and black high heels, Ms. Gulun led her trio, defying stereotypes in the male-dominated musical world that she inhabits, infusing her works with the serenity of her classical training and the energy of an Istanbul upbringing.”
(The New York Times & Herald Tribune by Susanne Fowler)
